Five Faves: My 5 Favorite Quotes About Resting
It’s so important to pay attention to what your body and mind tell you.
We live in a society designed for constant movement, output, and consumption.
But we are not robots.
We are not machines.
We have a system that requires rest and rejuvenation.
I’m not exactly sure when we started behaving like robots who have to constantly produce.
My little bit of research points to the industrial age. I’m sure it’s way more complicated than that.
Either way, think about how life was before modern amenities like artificial light and technology that give you access to everything and everyone 24/7/365.
You’ll recall that we humans lived, worked, rested, and played by a natural rhythm that suits our biological make-up.
It’s never too late to return to that way of life.
Energetic Ebb and Flow
I’ve been riding a wave of creative energy for the past two weeks. I’m now recognizing my cycles and patterns of energetic flow/restfulness.
My creative flow is so open right now so I'm notating as much as possible. My brain is on fire, thoughts and ideas are like embers shooting all over the place out of control.
I'm leaning into this energy flow, embracing it, learning from it.
Taking advantage of it as it ebbs and flows, and trusting that I don't have to take action on everything all at once.
Read that again but for yourself:
I don’t have to take action on everything all at once.

Learning to rest and lean into my energetic flow is such a valuable lesson learned.
Soon, the faucet will close, the flow will stop, and the fire will go out, or at least smolder under the ashes, waiting for another spark to ignite.
The other day I woke up with a fuzzy brain and feeling out of sorts.
I thought my creative flow stopped, and I was a little irritated about it because I’ve had so much fun the past few weeks writing and publishing.
So, to help me feel better about needing some time to rest, I looked up some inspirational quotes about resting.
They were so inspiring, I decided to share them with you!
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." — John Lubbock
"Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest." — Mark Black
"Rest when you're weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work." — Ralph Marston
"Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow." — Eleanor Brownn
"It's okay to take a break, to rest, to let the world continue without you for a moment." — Unknown
Of these five quotes, this one is my favorite. It’s so simple yet profound!!
"Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest." — Mark Black
Why does it resonate with me?
Because it wasn’t until I was in a situation in which I had no choice but to rest that I realized the importance of doing it regularly to avoid burnout!
Taking small moments each day, periodically each week, month, and year, gives your body, mind, and spirit a chance to renew itself.
Your life is still there, waiting for you.
You become the master at controlling your energy flow.
What about you? Do you struggle to rest?
And which quotes speak to you the most and why?

As a second time grad student, entrepreneur, and stay at home dad, I 100% struggle with rest. I wake up with a fuzzy brain more often than I'd like to admit. Really appreciate this post!
