"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." - Anne Lamott
As I sat outside in the grass this morning, perusing my phone, reading, liking, and commenting on Substack and LinkedIn, and periodically playing with my dog, I leaned my head back to drink the last of my green tea.
And saw this beautiful blue sky with puffy floating clouds framed by tall, green trees, a hallmark of this area of Texas known as the Piney Woods.
This moment made me realize the importance of looking up, pausing, breathing, enjoying, savoring.
BE-ing.
Now that the weather is getting a little cooler in my corner of Northeast Texas, one of my favorite ways to start my day is sitting outside in the grass in the early mornings with my coffee and tea.
Sometimes I read, sometimes I watch nature, and most of the time doing a little of both.
I don't know a better way to start the day than to be in touch with nature in whatever way we can wherever we are.
I get that not everyone has the opportunity to work from home for themselves and in their schedule and time.
Once upon a time, I worked in the corporate world and was raising a family.
I had no time for myself and was always rushing.
Rushing to get the kids off to school and myself to work.
Rushing through work.
Rushing through lunch to run errands and scarf down a meal.
Then rushing home to rush through an evening of homework, chores, making dinner, and ALL the mom/wife things, only to finally collapse into bed and start over the next day.
Day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. (I don’t miss those days!)
And I didn't know then what I know now. I lived in a reactive, stressful, state of mind. I'm older and wiser now. When I have these moments of calm presented to me, I take advantage of them.
So can you.
Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, stop right now and pause with me.
Look up…
Breathe. Savor. Enjoy. Smile.
Just BE.
Have a wonderful week!
